Lewisville Bed Bug Treatments

Bed bugs can cause a variety of skin irritations.

Many people do not realize that bed bugs can cause a number of health effects such as skin rashes, psychological effects and allergic symptoms. In fact, some people have been known to sleep in their bath tubs just to get away from these little blood sucking insects.  Bed bug bites may lead to a range of skin manifestations from no visible effects to prominent blisters such as those shown below.

I’m sure that you would agree that bed bugs are absolutely disgusting and nobody wants them in their home.  In fact, they are one of those pests that you really can’t ignore due to the skin irritation that they can cause. So why do bed bugs bite?

Bed bugs use humans as a food source.  This means that they literally feed on you when you are sleeping. They do this by piercing the skin with a stylet  which is a long skiny part of their mouth. They then use the small teeth in the stylet to saw through tissue in order to find blood vessels. Once they find blood vessels they will suck blood for about five minutes before returning to their hiding place.

But why do humans get all of those blisters from bed bugs?  A bed bug will inject or “back wash” its own saliva into the body of the human it is feeding on.  This saliva can create swelling and cause intense itching, though the level of itching or swelling will vary depending upon the individual’s sensitivity to the bed bug’s saliva. Generally, bed bug bites are only visible in 20-70% of the population. Some individuals may experience  an erythematous rash or urticaria if they receive a lot of bites

Some people who have been bitten by bed bugs have been known to suffer from anxiety, stress, and even insomnia.
